Good news at last, RSPCA will be reopening the flying field today. Anglian water will be undertaking some work to make good in the future, so it is likely there may be a need to close access to the flying field again while they complete this work, but I will keep you posted.
Also the RSPCA are going to continue to monitor the weather and ground conditions; if either deteriorates, they will have to close access again. With that comment in mind please take care when entering and leaving the field to avoid cutting up the gateway or the track to the hut.
Also be aware that there has not been opportunity to cut the grass as yet, again I will let you know when it is done.

We are going to restart limited flying from the 08/02/26 as the gateway is still soft. This will initially be Sunday mornings only from 10am. As we cannot use the gateway, cars will have to be parked in the RSPCA centre carpark and models and kit carried to the flying field. Members have been sent an email with full details.

Every year Doddington Model Club makes a donation to the RSPCA Block Fen based on their wish ‘list’ of animal food and toys for cats and dogs, this year was no exception. The presentation of items was made on Sunday morning by Neil Chapman, Andy Wake and Martin Brooks and was gratefully received by some of the staff and two of the dogs that the RSPCA are currently looking after.

Flying field update.
The field is currently still closed for use, as the gateway is still very soft and the track to the flight hut would very quickly cut up if many vehicles used it. It is likely this will remain the case until we get a prolonged period of dry weather. In the mean time we are looking into alternatives.

Today we have received an update today from the RSPCA:
Currently, the field is in poor condition; the entrance is very muddy, and the contractor vehicles have been struggling with access. Depending on the weather, we may need to consider a delay in reopening.
This is unfortunate but expected, given the amount of heavy rain we have had recently.
As soon as I hear more, I will let you know

Unfortunately, we are significantly affected by the Fenland reservoir development as our flying field falls within the development area. Please keep a lookout for club news giving updates on the situation.
The latest news is that work has now started and the field is currently out of bounds as of 10/11/25. The closure was expected to last two weeks, however; due to bad weather the diggers haven’t arrived yet, so it may be that the two-week window will need to be extended. I will let you know when the field is open again.
